Notes:

Igor Santos is a Brazilian-American composer, based in Chicago, IL. His work engages sound with individuality and clarity, carefully crafting unpredictable narratives and complex soundscapes. In addition, his electronic music focuses on defamiliarizing acoustic instruments by expanding their sonic properties and dramatizing them as having physical—organic—bodies. Described as “otherworldly and mysteriously familiar” (Chicago Classical Review) and as “exciting and clear . . . with a striking boldness" (Luigi Nono Competition Jury), Igor’s music has been commissioned and performed internationally by musicians such as Ensemble Intercontemporain, Ensemble Dal Niente, Alarm Will Sound, eighth blackbird, POING, the American Composers Orchestra, and The Florida Orchestra. He has earned degrees in Music Composition from the University of Chicago (Ph.D. 2018), the Eastman School of Music (M.A. 2012), and the University of South Florida (B.M. 2010), and has attended workshops and festivals such as Mizzou (2018), Impuls (2017), Time of Music (2017), ManiFeste (2015), Fontainebleau (2010), among others. He is the recipient of the First Prize in Luigi Nono International Competition, and Second Prize of the Salvatore Martirano Memorial Award.
