John Adams's Survey Response
John Adams survey response Harvard University Archives, UAV 406.95.1 OF
John Adams (b. 1947) responded to Paul Fromm’s survey only two years after graduating from Harvard (AB ’69, AM ‘72), recommending an eclectic mix of contemporary and historical experimentalists: John Cage, Karlheinz Stockhausen, Pierre Boulez, Charles Ives, Edgar Varese, Cornelius Cardew, and two members of the Harvard faculty, Leon Kirchner (Music) and Christian Wolff (Classics). The following spring saw the release of Adams’ first recording on Obscure Records featuring American Standard, a piece he composed as part of his graduate study at Harvard.
